Privacy Notice
This notice explains how Island Shield handles browser storage, optional location data, technical logs, website analytics, notifications, map requests and external payment links.
1. Information Island Shield does not request
The dashboard does not require an account and does not intentionally request your name, home address, telephone number, government identifier, health information or payment-card number. Payment details are entered only on an external payment platform.
2. Technical and operational data
When you access the site, Cloudflare and other infrastructure providers may automatically process technical information such as IP address, browser and device information, request time, requested path, approximate network location, security signals, errors and performance data. This information is used to deliver, secure, troubleshoot and protect the service.
3. Browser storage
The site stores weather-watch history and traffic-trend snapshots in your browser’s local storage. A service worker may cache site files for reliability and faster loading. This information generally remains on your device until you clear it, clear site data or use the dashboard’s history controls.
4. Optional shelter location
If you press the shelter “Use my location” button and grant browser permission, your location is used in the browser to calculate and sort shelter distances. Island Shield does not intentionally send that shelter-sorting coordinate to its server or TomTom.
5. Optional personal traffic routing
If you separately press the personal traffic “Use my location” button and grant permission, the browser sends the coordinate in the body of a secure request to the Island Shield Cloudflare Worker. The Worker sends it to TomTom to calculate a route to the mainland.
The coordinate is not placed in the page URL and Island Shield does not intentionally write it to application storage. Cloudflare, TomTom, network providers and security systems may nevertheless process request metadata according to their own policies and legal obligations. Do not use personal routing if you do not consent to this processing.
6. Maps and third-party requests
The shelter map retrieves map tiles from OpenStreetMap infrastructure. Those requests may disclose your IP address, browser information and the geographic map area requested to the tile provider. Links to NWS, NHC, FEMA, DriveTexas, TomTom and other sites take you to services controlled by those organizations.
7. Browser notifications
If you enable notifications, your browser stores the permission choice. Current Island Shield notifications are generated while the dashboard is open; the project does not currently create a remote push-notification subscription.
8. Google Analytics
Island Shield uses Google Analytics 4 to understand general website usage, including pages viewed, approximate geographic region, device and browser category, referring source and engagement. Google Analytics may use first-party cookies or similar identifiers to distinguish visits and sessions.
Island Shield disables Google Signals and advertising-personalization features in its Google tag configuration. Island Shield does not intentionally send names, email addresses, precise location, payment information or correction-form contents to Google Analytics. Google and its infrastructure providers may process technical identifiers and network information under their own terms and privacy policies.
You can limit analytics through browser privacy controls, script or cookie blocking, or by clearing site data. Cloudflare may separately process operational request and security logs as described above.
9. Ko-fi support payments
The support button and embedded support panel connect to Ko-fi. Island Shield does not receive your complete card or bank details. The payment platform may collect identity, payment, fraud-prevention, tax and transaction information under its own privacy notice. Island Shield may receive transaction details made available by the platform, such as amount, date, status and supporter contact information.
10. How information may be used
- Operate, secure and improve the dashboard.
- Detect abuse, attacks, fraud and service failures.
- Calculate requested traffic routes and shelter distances.
- Process support payments and maintain financial records.
- Comply with law, legal process, tax obligations and platform rules.
11. Sharing
Information may be processed by Cloudflare, TomTom, OpenStreetMap tile infrastructure, payment providers, professional advisers, contractors supporting the project, or authorities when legally required. Island Shield does not sell personal information.
12. Retention and security
Island Shield aims to minimize data collection and retain operational information only as reasonably needed for security, troubleshooting, finance, legal compliance and service improvement. No internet system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed, lost or disclosed.
13. Your choices
- Decline browser location and notification permissions.
- Do not use personal traffic routing.
- Clear dashboard history using the on-page controls.
- Clear local storage, cookies and service-worker data in your browser.
- Choose not to use the embedded Ko-fi panel or follow the external Ko-fi link.
14. Children
The site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. Island Shield does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.
